Looking for a night out with guaranteed laughs? Your search ends here!
At the end of this month Canolfan Beaumaris plays host to an evening of comedy, courtesy of the outstanding Castle Players.
Not one, not two, but three brilliant one-act comedies—each guaranteed to leave you smiling.
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store (no spoilers, we promise):
The first play of the evening will be the ‘The Marrow Conspiracy’ by John Britton.
The Marrow Conspiracy, a comedy take on a country house mystery (although this time there isn't a body in the library), is one of those rare thrillers that manages to balance genuine intrigue with a sharp, offbeat sense of humour.
Set in a country house in the 1930s, the ramifications spread far and wide when Dorothy’s monster marrow disappears from the vegetable patch. Can Inspector Jarrup of the yard track down the culprit? Meanwhile, Dorothy's husband Basil has a secret of his own...
One line teaser: A conspiracy thriller with a comic twist – where the truth is stranger than fiction, and much funnier.
Our second play of the evening will be ‘Mother Figure’ by Alan Ayckbourn.
Mother Figure is a brilliantly offbeat piece of theatre that turns suburban normality into something quietly surreal – and irresistibly funny. Witty, observant and a bit mischievous – a standout choice for audiences who enjoy character-led comedy with a quietly surreal twist.
The play centres on a well-meaning but delightfully eccentric housewife whose life appears, at first glance, comfortingly ordinary. But it quickly becomes clear that her version of reality doesn’t quite align with everyone else’s.
One line teaser: A sharply observed suburban comedy where polite conversation unravels into delightful absurdity.
Our third and final play of the evening will be ‘Superheroes’ by John Britton.
Superheroes is a witty, fast-paced comedy that playfully blurs the line between everyday life and comic-book fantasy. It is an ideal pick for audiences who enjoy clever, character-driven humour with a fresh twist – offering all the fun of a superhero story, but with the capes slightly askew and the egos endearingly grounded.
The play follows a group of seemingly ordinary people whose lives begin to take on the shape – and drama – of a superhero story. But instead of soaring action and epic battles, the focus is firmly on the hilariously human side of things: self-doubt, awkward relationships and the gap between who we are and who we’d quite like to be.
One line teaser: A feel-good comedy where saving the world takes a back seat to figuring yourself out.
Don't miss out - this is a two-night-only run!
